The orginal VW franchise in Lynchburg, Lynchburg Motors, opened it's doors in 1964 on Candlers Mountain Road.  The Rash family purchased the dealership in 1965 and continued in operation until 1971.  At that time Mr. James Sharp and Mr. Ross Nichols purchased the facility.  Mr. Sharp was working with Volkswagen of America in distribution and Mr. Nichols was managing the store for the Rash family at the time they partnered and purchased the franchise and called their new venture S & N Volkswagen. 

Mr. Tony Terry began working in the automobile business in the early 1970's and by the mid 80's was operating his own wholesale automobile business.  Mr. Sharp and Mr. Nichols were ready to retire by the mid 80's and wanted to see their legacy continue with someone they knew to be of great character, honesty and work ethic.  They approached Mr. Terry in 1985 about purchasing the dealership and Tony became the Owner/Dealer Principle shortly after that time.  Mr. Terry changed the name to Star Imports in the late 80's.

Mr. Mark Dalton was hand picked by Tony to be his General Manager and Vice President of operations in January of 1992 because Mr. Terry knew Mark shared the same values and characteristics that had made Tony so very succesful in a very demanding business where honesty and intergrety are often rare commodities.  Mark is still running the day to day operation of the dealership and lighting the airwaves with his voice on our "Deal of the Day" radio spots and Television advertising.

Star Imports operated at the Candlers Mountain Road facility until 2002, when Mr. Terry opened a brand new facility on Route 221 at 19134 Forest Road here in Lynchburg.  The dealership was renamed Terry Volkswagen Subaru and still operates today with Mr. Terry at the helm, ensuring that his honesty, character and work ethic  still drive his business and employees to bring a truly unique and painless car buying experience to the people of Lynchburg and hundreds, even thousands of miles away, that have chosen to make Terry Volkswagen Subaru their Car Dealer of choice.
